Damian Gordon was admitted to practice on 10 June 1986 as a Barrister in the Supreme Court of Queensland. Damian is also admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the High Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory. He has lectured in both family law and employment law at Charles Darwin University where his students were both Australia wide and from overseas. Damian was a former Mediator and Case Appraiser for the Supreme Court of Queensland and a former Dispute Resolution Practitioner of the Family Court of Australia. He has given numerous seminars to colleagues on behalf of LegalWise, the Law Society of Queensland and the Law Society of the Northern Territory. Damian has been Counsel in cases which set the precedent for de facto relationships under the Family Law Act 1975 and has extensive experience in acting with children, particularly indigenous familial relationships and child protection. Damian has acted for both public and private sector insurers in respect to both commercial insurance matters and personal injury. Damian has always had a strong interest in employer and employee relationships and the interaction of that relationship. Damian began his career in the Public Defender’s Office in Queensland in 1983. Now he predominantly practices in family law, commercial litigation and employment law. Damian has a keen interest in AFL, rugby, netball and lunch on the weekend.

Menike obtained a Bachelor of Law from Sri Lanka and passed with Honours for Attorneys-at-Law in her final examination. Menike was admitted to practise in the Supreme Court of Sri-Lanka and practiced in the Corporate and Company Secretarial area for over 4 years working for one of the most prestigious firms in Sri Lanka. Menike also gained her Diploma in Commercial Arbitration from the Institute for the Development of Commercial & Commercial Arbitration Centre in Sri Lanka. When Menike relocated to Perth with her family, she studied at Murdoch University and became qualified to practice in Australia. Menike specialises in Family Law matters and has a broad range of experience dealing with both financial and children’s issues. She also has extensive experience in Wills and Estate matters. Menike is focussed on the best resolution for all of her clients and understands that often complex situations can arise which need to be addressed with compassion and understanding. Before joining the team at DFG Legal, Menike worked for boutique law firms in the South East Metropolitan region and Perth. In her spare time, Menike enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Chris’ attributes make her the ideal person to attend to the logistical needs of our firm. These include assisting with clients’ procedural enquiries and to ensure that our professional staff are delivering the standard of service that is expected in a professional organisation.

Chris’ background has involved managing the expectations of not only a significant number of employees but liaising and negotiating multi-million dollar contracts within both the public and private sectors.

Chris brings all of her experience to our firm to assist our clients and our staff to ensure that all expectations are met regardless of whether you are a staff member or one of our valued clients. In her spare time, Chris loves spending time with her beautiful grandchildren and lunching with family and friends.

Jodie commenced her law degree at the age of forty and graduated from Murdoch University in 2010 as Juris Doctor with Honours. She spent almost 6 years from 2011 practicing law as a civil litigation lawyer at a high-profile mid-tier law firm in the Perth CBD before returning to her hometown of Mandurah to work firstly at the local community legal centre and then with local law firms.

Jodie is passionate about enabling people of limited resources to access justice; she is frank and honest about your rights and is realistic about your chances of succeeding in any legal action. Jodie has 10 years’ experience working in almost every area of civil litigation including breaches of contracts and leases, debt recovery, insurance, defamation, contentions probates, wills and estates, and State Administrative Tribunal work such as planning, guardianship and administration and building disputes amongst other things. Jodie can also advise on and act for you in criminal injuries compensation and confiscation matters and restraining orders, and can assist your business in the preparation of well-crafted legal agreements.

Jodie was a junior member on the Law Society Council of Western Australia in 2016 and 2017, and ordinary member of Council for 2018 and 2019, and was a board member of Safe Woman Safe Family Inc from 2020 to 2021. Jodie has also run as the Greens candidate for Canning in the federal elections in 2019 and 2022, and as Greens candidate for Mandurah in the state election in 2017.

Rachel obtained a Bachelor of Laws with honours from Edith Cowan University in 2015. As a law graduate, she worked with a Perth based community legal centre, with a focus on homelessness. Following her admission to the legal profession in 2016, Rachel commenced work with a defendant insurance law firm, specialising in workers compensation. Given her past work in a defendant practice, Rachel has an acute interest in representing employees in workplace disputes and workers compensation claims. She commenced work with DFG Legal in 2019 and is currently an Associate of the firm. Rachel not only specialises in employment law and workers compensation, but also in criminal law, civil litigation and restraining orders. She is focused on dispute resolution and aims to achieve the best possible outcome for her clients. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing chess, cooking, and walking her dog.

Being Perth born and bred, Remy began her Settlement career with one of the founders of Settlements in WA. She has been helping people with all aspects of settlements for over 40 years. Her passion to help people is evident with every client she has dealt with and the repeat business that keeps her busy to this day. Living and working in the South Perth/Como area, her knowledge and skill is second to none when it comes to residential and commercial settlements not only in that area, but all areas. Any time of the day, Remy has time for you and will endeavour to make your settlement process smooth and efficient.

Shae’s ability to organise and maintain our administrative “heart” makes her an invaluable member of the DFG Legal team. Her computing, administration and typing skills ensure that our clients have an added safety net in relation to the quality of the work that we produce. Shae is currently undertaking study to further her skill set and to allow her to become more prepared in terms of the practical aspects of the Law. In her spare time, Shae enjoys spending time with her beautiful family and her friends.

Originally from Melbourne, Helene has legal experience in a variety of areas of law including conveyancing, Wills, Estates, workers compensation, personal injury matters and commercial matters. Helene obtained an Associate Diploma of Business (Legal) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and has worked in legal practices for over 35 years. At DFG Legal Helene is assisting our Senior Conveyancer Remy Rowen with her settlement files and is also providing administrative support to our other lawyers. Helene loves her job and especially loves helping people. When she has free time, loves Helene loves painting, reading and her beloved Richmond Football Club. Helene is also a local, living in the Como area.

Sarah has over 25 years’ experience running and advising businesses in the areas of Hospitality, Real Estate, and the Travel Industry. This wealth of knowledge and experience ensures she has a solid understanding of the pressures and issues that can arise as a business owner, manager, or employee in these changing times. Her ability to identify and assess these issues means that her role as a Nationally Accredited Mediator is exceptional.

As the saying goes ‘To understand a person’s perspective you have to walk in that person’s shoes.’ Sarah has worn these shoes so brings a unique dimension to the role as a mediator.
